Tracking Leopards

Leopards are what many people come to see in the Sabi Sands.

It’s me. Hi!

But the week I was there the leopards decided to play hide & seek.

What was the score at the end of the 5 days?

Leopards - 4

Humans - 1

More to come on that!

Tristan our guide and Chris our tracker worked tirelessly to find these cats. It was truly an adventure everyday! I loved it.

On our third afternoon drive there was a call on the radio that a leopard had been heard sawing by Nkorho Bush Lodge.  And all of a sudden, it was a Ferrari safari to get to the area.  After some searching and listening, Tristan and Chris tracked down my first Sabi Sands leopard. Oh my heart!

The lighting wasn’t great and suddenly I forgot how to check my camera setting (I blame my excitement😂). I captured a couple of images of this beutiful girl. But honestly they are not useable. I have to give many thanks to Lightroom’s new “Noise Reduction” feature, it saved me. But honestly, I don’t care, because sometimes images don’t have to be perfect to help someone remember a special moment or core memory!

Meet the female leopard they call Watika!

We got to see Watika hunt impala, but sadly miss. We also followed her for a bit down the road & in the bush as she scent marked along the way. Then off she went into the bush for the night to find a late night dinner.

What a day you were June 7, 2023; I will never forget you🧡
